About kundli matching

Kundli matching (guna milan) compares two birth charts for marriage compatibility using the Ashtakuta system: eight kootas — varna, vashya, tara, yoni, graha maitri, gana, bhakoot and nadi — scored out of 36 gunas. This tool computes the full Ashtakuta table, the South Indian Dashakoot factors, and a Manglik (Mangal dosha) check for both charts, from each person’s date, time and place of birth.

Scores are computed from real sidereal positions (Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri ayanamsa), and the Manglik verdict applies the classical cancellation rules rather than a blanket label — so the result reflects how a working astrologer actually reads a match, not just a number.

Kundli matching — frequently asked questions

How many gunas are considered a good match?
Out of 36: below 18 is traditionally considered weak, 18–24 acceptable, 25–32 very good, and above 32 excellent. A low score is a prompt for deeper analysis — nadi or bhakoot doshas have their own exceptions — not an automatic no.
What is Mangal dosha (Manglik), and can it be cancelled?
Mangal dosha arises when Mars occupies certain houses from the lagna, Moon or Venus. Classical texts list several cancellations — for example Mars in its own or exaltation sign, or both partners being Manglik. This tool checks the dosha and its cancellation rules for both charts.
What is the difference between Ashtakuta and Dashakoot?
Ashtakuta is the eight-factor North Indian system scored out of 36 gunas; Dashakoot is the ten-factor system preferred in South India. We compute both, so the match can be read in either tradition.
Do we need exact birth times for matching?
Most koota factors are Moon-based and tolerate small time uncertainty, but the Manglik check and lagna-based factors need a reasonably exact time. If a birth time is unknown, treat lagna-dependent verdicts with caution.
Is nadi dosha always a deal-breaker?
No. Nadi carries the highest weight (8 gunas), but classical practice recognises exceptions — same rashi with different nakshatras, for instance. A nadi flag here is a signal to examine the charts more closely.
Is the matching report free?
Computing the Ashtakuta and Dashakoot scores with the Manglik check is free. A detailed compatibility report with navamsa overlay and dasha-window analysis is available as a premium PDF.
